A Journey for the Senses

A Journey for the Senses

Anyone who knows me at all knows that I’ve long been obsessed with scented candles.  I can’t remember when it started, but I remember buying them in college for my apartment.  When I owned my store, I frequently had to be reigned in by my staff to not carry every line of scented candle that crossed my purview.  And that was hard.  I can admit it now.  We carried too many candle brands, but I loved it.

I have thought about launching my own candle brand for years, and when the pandemic really hit New York, I had more free time to think about it.  Long story short, it was supposed to be a hobby – something for me to do in my spare time.  Now that I’ve fully launched Hunt & Bloom, I’m excited to have the candles accompany the beautiful furnishings we are offering.

A little about Hunt & Bloom candles:

  • Five delicious fragrances hand poured in the U.S.A
    • Midnight Garden
    • Tranced
    • Elysium
    • Empress
    • Meadowcrest
  • Soy blend wax with cotton wicks
  • Elegantly boxed, each candle comes in a muslin drawstring bag with Hunt & Bloom matches

I have been asked many times what my favorite fragrances are in our line.  I honestly can’t tell you that because I love them all.  I can say that I positioned our hero fragrance to be Midnight Garden.  It’s a spicy, peppery rose scent that is full of mystery.  It’s our only candle that is poured with black wax, making it disappear into the black vessel.  It’s intoxicating.

I also love holiday candles, so we couldn’t pass up launching a holiday fragrance.  Beneath the Tree is our signature holiday fragrance and is a crisp blend of balsam and fir and evokes immediate feelings of being home for the holidays.  Don’t miss it.  It’s back in stock soon!

Of course, we love our own candles, but I am also often asked what my OTHER favorite brands and fragrances are.  I will share a few, only if you promise not to pick them over Hunt & Bloom!

Perennial Favorite that Never Goes Out of Style:  Baies by Diptyque

Splurge: Josephine by Cire Trudon

Spice It Up: Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone – get the giant size, it will last forever

Freshen Up: Grapefruit by Nest

Affordable Classic:  Red Currant by Votivo – burned it for years, carried it in my store

For the Young (and Young at Heart): Volcano by Capri Blue – I also carried this, but before it’s worldwide explosion thanks to Anthropologie.  It was also created by Aspen Bay, which was founded in Starkville, MS

For Yin and Yang: Muse Blanc and Muse Noir by Jonathan Adler – these two fragrances are poured in Adler’s signature Dora Maar style vessel.  Blanc is sweet and floral while Noir is spicy and mysterious.

When the Holidays Roll Around: Tie: Holiday by Nest & Pomander by Diptyque
